Deeping St James C.P. School

Inspire to learn, achieve together

Geography

At Deeping St. James Primary School we believe that Geography helps to provoke and provide answers to questions about the natural and human aspects of the world. We understand the need to immerse our pupils in a diverse geography curriculum in order to understand areas of both the UK and the world; we feel it is essential to broaden horizons and cultural diversity not experienced in our own locality.

Children are encouraged to develop a greater understanding and knowledge of the world, as well as their place in it. The geography curriculum at Deeping St James enables children to develop substantive knowledge; this includes place knowledge, human, physical and environmental knowledge as well as developing geographical skills.

Children are also given the opportunity to think as geographers and develop disciplinary knowledge alongside each strand of substantive knowledge. Hence, children get the opportunity to become a geographer and develop habits to think geographically.

We hope to encourage and develop field work skills and provide a basis of knowledge in order to inspire all pupils in their time at Deeping St James and beyond.
